What you can expect
As a media tech lead, you will lead Zoom’s next generation real-time web media architecture, optimizing audio and video quality for web-based clients across multiple browsers and operating systems and servers at large scale. You will influence the technical roadmap, collaborate with senior leaders and global teams, and remain hands on in product development and release cycles. Working alongside leading experts in the field, you’ll deliver happiness to our users and grow your knowledge base every day.
About the Team
The Audio Video team is Zoom’s technical foundation for real-time communication, owning the full media pipeline from device capture through pre-processing, encoding, transmission, network adaptation, decoding, post-processing and rendering. The team supports the native Zoom client, web-based client, and corresponding Video SDK products that enable developers to build on Zoom’s audio video platform.
Responsibilities
Architecting and implementing robust WebRTC media flows across and interoperating between web browsers, native clients, and media servers
Defining and evolving the core architecture for signaling, peer connection management, Quality of Service (QoS), transport protocols, and the overall media pipeline
Developing and enhancing modules for device management, peer connections, SDP negotiations, , video simulcast switching, adaptive bitrate algorithms, congestion control mechanisms, active speaker detection, and A/V synchronization.
Designing and developing observability systems including metrics, QoE monitoring, automated testing, and large-scale stress frameworks.
Ensuring low latency, high throughput, and stable operation for large-scale real-time sessions

What we’re looking for
A minimum of a Masters degree in computer science or related field.
Individuals with extensive, practical expertise in developing production-ready WebRTC solutions or optimizing high-performance media server architectures.
Require comprehensive knowledge of real-time media protocols, such as ICE, STUN/TURN, DTLS/SRTP, RTP/RTCP, SCTP/DataChannel, and BUNDLE.
Expect deep knowledge of media server internals: routing, mixing, transcoding, switching, and composition, and strong skills in multithreading, concurrency, and asynchronous processing
Expect expertise in A/V internals such as capture, encoding/decoding, jitter buffers, congestion control, synchronization, and media pipeline performance.
Value expertise in modern video codecs (VP8/VP9/H.264/H.265/AV1) and hardware acceleration
Demonstrate expertise in C++ and/or JavaScript.TypeScript, wit strong debugging skills, including packet-level analysis and specialized media/protocol tooling.

Salary Range or On Target Earnings:

$143 000,00Maximum:
$312 800,00In addition to the base salary and/or OTE listed Zoom has a Total Direct Compensation philosophy that takes into consideration; base salary, bonus and equity value.
Note: Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.
We also have a location based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in this and other locations
