How Zoom’s terms of service and practices apply to AI features

Editor’s note: This blog post was edited on August 11, 2023, to include the most up-to-date information on our terms of service. Following feedback received regarding Zoom’s recently updated terms of service Zoom has updated our terms of service and the below blog post to make it clear that Zoom does not use any of your audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments, or other communications like customer content (such as poll results, whiteboard, and reactions) to train Zoom’s or third-party artificial intelligence models.

It’s important to us at Zoom to empower our customers with innovative and secure communication solutions. We’ve updated our terms of service (in section 10) to further confirm that Zoom does not use any of your audio, video, chat, screen-sharing, attachments, or other communications like customer content (such as poll results, whiteboard, and reactions) to train Zoom’s or third-party artificial intelligence models. In addition, we have updated our in-product notices to reflect this.

Recent terms of service changes

We strive to provide transparency about data ownership in our terms of service. These terms of service work together with our privacy statement and in-product privacy notices, which in turn aim to make sure that customers have notice and choice with respect to how Zoom uses their content. These terms of service typically cover our online customers. Different contracts exist for customers that buy directly from us, including enterprises and customers in regulated verticals like education and healthcare, and updates to the online terms of service do not impact these customers.

We changed our online terms of service in March 2023 to explain how we use and who owns the various forms of content across our platform. Based on customer feedback, we further updated the terms of service in August 2023 to reflect the changes described above and to reorganize Section 10 and make it easier to understand.

Generative AI features

We recently introduced two powerful generative AI features — Zoom IQ Meeting Summary and Zoom IQ Team Chat Compose — on a free trial basis to enhance your Zoom experience. These features offer automated meeting summaries and AI-powered chat composition. Zoom account owners and administrators control whether to enable these AI features for their accounts.

To reiterate: Zoom does not use any of your audio, video, chat, screen-sharing, attachments, or other communications like customer content (such as poll results, whiteboard, and reactions) to train Zoom’s or third-party artificial intelligence models.

We remain committed to transparency, and our aim is to provide you with the tools you need to make informed decisions about your Zoom account. We value your privacy and are continuously working to enhance our services while respecting your rights and preferences.

Thank you for being part of the Zoom community. Together, we’ll continue to create meaningful and seamless collaboration experiences through Zoom.
